I always feel so sad when I “like” something on my google reader and then this shows up:
![]()
I like it… but no one else does. So sad!
Maybe I have develop a more interesting taste… or not.

That has nothing to do with your taste. It’s all about people being lazy bastards
Go to your Google Reader and look at how many “likes” you marked up in the last 6 months. What, only a few?! Shocking… Well, that’s true for everybody else.
Why would people take the time to “like” something? And what’s the difference between “like” and “star” and “share” – and how many are taking the time to check all of them? And how many people are using RSS readers? And how many of those are using Google Reader? You do the math.
Just an example: an interesting Pew Internet study on “Social Isolation and New Technology” (which was quoted all over the web) got a grand total of 1 likes in my Google Reader. It doesn’t mean this piece of research is not interesting, or wasn’t liked – it just means that people didn’t take the time and effort to mark it as “liked.”
